The Version of Summertime... meh?
Sorry to burst anyone's bubble here who raved about this particular version of Summertime (I assume that is why you're here, isn't it? Well, that's why I was here, anyway..), but this version is not very good at all. It's quite cheesy actually, especially when those god-awful artificial sounding drums come in around the middle. I noticed right before I bought this, that this album was categorized under the genre of "Easy Listening." I certainly should've paid this more heed, because that is what this version of Summertime is- basically one of those songs you hear on the old persons' radio station. If you know what I'm talking about, then go with something a little more authentic. Wish I would've.
I have three different versions of this song and love this version the best. It is gorgeous and still gives the liveliness effect of the other versions I own!
Summertime, and the living is easy
Fish are jumping, and the cotton is high
Your daddy's rich, and your ma is good looking
So hush little baby, don't you cry.
One of these mornings, you're gonna rise up singing
You're gonna spread your wings and take the sky
But till that morning, there is nothing can harm you
With your daddy and mommy standing by
Where's Baba O'Reilly??
Honestly, you can't have a Porgy and Bess album without Baba O'Reilly!
I'm just kidding (and making fun of the guy who gave this one star). George Gershwin is a genius. Summertime is my personal favorite (and the only one I bought), but just about everything here is really good, and worth buying.
